An aquaduct is any artificial channel or
conduit for water, often an elevated
structure of stone, wood, or iron built
for conducting water across a valley. The
Greeks built a tunnel 1,280m (4,200ft) long
near Athens, over 2,500 years ago.
The longest aqueduct in Britain is the Pont
Cysylltau in Clwyd, Wales, which was opened
in 1805. It is 307m (1,007ft) long, with 19
arches of up to 36m (121ft) high.
